Why you should apply?

With its vibrant cultural scene, a dynamic job market and modern infrastructure, it’s gained a reputation as one of the most relevant startup hubs in the world today. From tech platforms to fashion businesses, Berlin has them all. Each year, roughly 44,000 new companies launch in Berlin – the equivalent of one new startup being founded every 20 minutes. Focusing in on the ICT, media and creative industries, there are over 37,000 companies based in Berlin; a workforce of almost 300,000 generating roughly €27bn in annual revenue.

Every year, more than 500 tech startups launch in Berlin. The tech businesses are drawn to the city for its low cost of living – useful when working on the typical shoestring salaries offered at young tech companies. In general, rent in Berlin is cheaper than in many other European capitals, whether you need office space or somewhere to live.

The lower cost of living has attracted a steady flow of international talent, creating a dynamic market, with plenty of fresh ideas – ideal for businesses working in the creative industries. In Berlin, non-native employees make up around 34% of the startup workforce, and many foreigners flock to the city to kick off their own projects.

Start Alliance invites startups to experience this vibrant ecosystem and to use it for their own products or services. Whether your offer is addressed to consumers, SMEs or big corporates, you'll have the opportunity to meet relevant networks and business associations during your stay. This program will cover multiple business sectors. So regardless of the market in which your startup is working - Start Alliance will help you find a way in discovering the best business opportunities in Berlin.

Selected startups will receive free office space in one of our partner co-working spaces for the duration of the program. That way, you can test the Berlin and European market and connect with the Berlin startup scene and its main actors. Further support is given by connecting startups with meaningful industry partners, universities, by providing location service, financing service and talent service.

For this Start Alliance edition dedicated to Female Founders we will partner with “We Can Start Up” (runned by The Place) which is a fully curated event series focused on female entrepreneurship. Since the startup ecosystem is mostly led by male entrepreneurs, the aim of We Can Start Up is to contribute to the landscape change by empowering female founders to fulfil their potentials and encourage more women to become entrepreneurs.
