European microphysiological systems companies launch world's first industry association

Leading European microphysiological systems (MPS) companies have announced the creation of the Industry Alliance for Microphysiological Systems (IAMPS), the world’s first industry association representing MPS providers. Founding members include AlveoliX, BiomimX, chiron, Dynamic42, InSphero, MIMETAS, NETRI, React4Life and Berlin-based company TissUse.

MPS, such as organoids and organs-on-chips, are one of the main technologies of the emerging New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and include organoids, organs-on-chips, and other related devices designed to faithfully replicate the functions of human tissues and organs. The alliance strongly believes that the sector can make a major contribution to several key European Union science and policy objectives, including improving drug development and derisking clinical trials; reducing the use of animals in science; and strengthening Europe’s competitiveness in life sciences.

To this aim, IAMPS will promote collaboration with regulators and end-users to accelerate regulatory acceptance of MPS data, support standardisation and data-sharing, and work with policy-makers to ensure that EU legislation and programmes support the development of the sector. The association is expected to become fully operational in the second quarter of 2026 and welcomes collaborators and additional members from across the MPS ecosystem.
