HealthCapital Berlin-Brandenburg Receives the Silver Label from the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA)

European Clusters are audited as part of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI), and receive excellence labels in one of three stages based on set benchmarks: bronze, silver, and gold. Over 950 Clusters in all industries have already undergone the benchmarking process, including the Health Business Cluster of Berlin-Brandenburg – HealthCapital.

After being awarded the bronze label in 2015, the Cluster has now reached the next stage: “After intensive preparations, we recently received the coveted silver label from the ESCA, making us one of the ten highest-certified health Clusters in Europe,” Cluster spokesman Stefan Oelrich says, adding: “I would like to thank the employees at Berlin Partner and the Brandenburg business development department, who are networking key actors in the capital region and beyond, including internationally, through professional expertise and a high level of commitment. In doing so, they are supporting them in bringing health innovations to patients through research and development.”

Clusters that have achieved major improvements in three defined areas since being granted the bronze label can gain the silver label. This acts as a certification of quality for cluster management. The audit report stated: “In conclusion the cluster is very well structured and well managed, rich in terms of quality and quantity of participants, as well as in terms of activities and services provided to the players.” With over 21,000 companies and 360,000 employees in health management, supply, and life sciences, the cluster covers both the entire value creation chain and all industries and topics relevant to the healthcare industry.

Recently, key topics have included “innovative healthcare supply,” “transfer and translation platforms,” “big data for clinical studies and care research,” and “health 4.0.” In the interdisciplinary exchange with experts from science, development, and healthcare, we systematically address the major challenges and find solutions for the future of medicine and healthcare.

“The silver label demonstrates our willingness to further intensify our collaborations not only regionally, but throughout Europe as well,” says Dr. Kai Uwe Bindseil, Cluster Manager of Health Management at Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie.
