New President of the Robert Koch Institute

Prof. Dr. Lars Schaade is the new President of the Robert Koch Institute. The 57-year-old physician had already been acting head of the Institute since 1 April, 2023.

The Federal Health Minister Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach presented the certificate of appointment, signed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to the new president on 4 October 2023.
Prior to this, the Federal Cabinet had approved the proposal of Federal Health Minister Lauterbach. The inauguration ceremony at the RKI will take place on 9 October, 2023. In 2010, Lars Schaade joined the Robert Koch Institute as head of the Centre for Biological Safety. Since 2011, he has been part of the Institute's management as Vice President.
