Outpatient and inpatient acute care

With more than 130 hospitals, the clinic landscape in Berlin-Brandenburg offers a broad and high-quality range of care in the region. These include beacons such as the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, which as Europe's largest university hospital integrates treatment, research, and education. The German Heart Center Berlin enjoys an excellent reputation far beyond Europe. Clinic groups such as Vivantes, Germany’s largest municipal hospital group, or Helios, one of the largest private German hospital groups, are headquartered in the region. The internationally renowned clinics also include the Carl-Thiem-Klinikum Cottbus, Brandenburg’s largest hospital, the Ernst von Bergmann Klinikum in Potsdam, and the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin.

Comprehensive Care  with Telemedicine

In cooperation with the region’s scientific institutions, the clinics are the central partners of pioneering model projects. Telemedicine is an important means of ensuring nationwide coverage: At the Lausitz Telemedical Center, high-risk patients with chronic heart failure receive medical treatment from a distance, together with the Carl Thiem Klinikum Cottbus and the Städtisches Klinikum Brandenburg. With the help of a teleradiological network, the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin supports 15 clinics in Berlin, Brandenburg, and the surrounding Federal States during diagnosis and consultation.

Cross-sectoral Care

In recent years, many hospitals have significantly expanded their business beyond in-patient acute care: Cross-sector, outpatient acute care, nursing, and rehabilitation services as well as health promotion and prevention services are bundled under one roof. For example, in the Ernst von Bergmann Health Park, there is a 1,000-bed specialist care center, a medical care center (MVZ), a senior citizens’ and prevention center, and an academy. Vivantes set up a network which, in addition to the nine clinics, also includes nursing homes, retirement homes, outpatient rehabilitation facilities, medical care centers (MVZs), and outpatient nursing services.
In addition to their health care function in the region, the clinics are among the largest employers in the region, making a decisive contribution to job security. In Brandenburg as well, the Ernst von Bergmann and the Carl Thiem Klinikum are among the largest employers in the region.
